Hearty Meat Lover’s Pizza

Indulge in a savory Italian sausage and olive pizza loaded with gooey cheese.
Ingredients:
  • 1 package regular active or fast-acting dry yeast
  • 1 cup warm water (105°F to 115°F)
  • 1 1/2 cups Gold Medal™ all-purpose flour
  • 2 tablespoons olive or vegetable oil
  • Cornmeal
  • 1 lb bulk mild Italian pork sausage
  • 1 large onion, chopped (1 cup)
  • 1 can (8 oz) pizza sauce
  • 1 medium green bell pepper, chopped (1 cup)
  • 1 can (2 1/4 oz) sliced ripe olives, drained
  • 1 package (3.5 oz) sliced pepperoni
  • 2 cups shredded mozzarella cheese (8 oz)
Instructions:
  • In a medium bowl, mix the yeast with warm water until dissolved. Add in the flours, oil, and salt. Beat vigorously with a spoon for 20 strokes. Allow the dough to rest in the bowl for 20 minutes.
  • Preheat the oven to 425°F and position the rack at the lowest level. Grease 2 cookie sheets or 12-inch pizza pans with oil and sprinkle with cornmeal. In a skillet, cook sausage and onion over medium heat for 8 to 10 minutes until sausage is cooked and onion is tender. Drain excess grease before using.
  • Divide the dough in half, then shape each half into an 11-inch round on a cookie sheet using your floured fingers. Spread pizza sauce over the dough rounds, and then sprinkle with sausage mixture, bell pepper, olives, pepperoni, and cheese.
  • Bake until cheese is gooey and sauce is bubbling, 15 to 20 minutes.
