Total Time:
3 hours 10 minutes
Ingredients:
  • 1 box Betty Crocker™ Super Moist™ White Cake Mix
  • Water, oil and egg whites called for on cake mix box
  • Red liquid food color
  • Tray or cardboard (15x12 inches), covered with wrapping paper and plastic food wrap or foil
  • 1 tub (16 oz) Betty Crocker™ Rich & Creamy Vanilla Frosting
  • 1 red Fruit by the Foot™ fruit-flavored snack
  • 2 black jelly beans
  • 1 yellow Jordan almond or other oval-shaped yellow candy
  • 2 pieces black licorice
  • Betty Crocker™ black decorating gel
Instructions:
  • Preheat oven to 350°F (325°F for dark or nonstick pan). Prepare the cake batter following the instructions on the box. Add red food color to the batter until desired shade of pink is achieved. Bake the cake in a 13x9-inch pan according to the instructions on the box. Allow the cake to cool for 10 minutes, then loosen the sides with a knife and transfer to a cooling rack. Let the cake cool completely for about 1 hour. For easier cutting and to reduce crumbs, chill the cake in the freezer for 30 minutes before slicing.
  • Place the cake top side up on a tray and then position the Hello Kitty template on top of the cake. Carefully cut out the Hello Kitty shape from the cake using a serrated knife, following the outline of the template.
  • Apply a thin layer of frosting to the cake to seal in crumbs, then freeze for about 30 minutes to set. Finish by frosting the entire cake with the remaining frosting.
  • Slice off a 3-inch piece from the red Fruit By The Foot and keep it aside. Shape the remaining Fruit By The Foot into a 5-inch loop and wrap the rest around the loop. Pinch the center and wrap the 3-inch piece around it to make a bow. Separate the ends to form the bow loops. Adorn the right ear of the cake with the bow. Create eyes on the face using black jelly beans and place an almond in the center as the nose. Cut each piece of black licorice into 3 parts for whiskers. Attach 3 whiskers on each side of the face. Use black decorating gel to outline the cake.
