Make tangy sourdough white bread with ease.
Ingredients:
  • 1 (.25 ounce) package active dry yeast
  • 1 cup lukewarm water
  • 1 cup Herman Sourdough Starter
  • 1 tablespoon salt
Instructions:
  • In a small mixing bowl, mix yeast with warm water until creamy. Allow to stand for about 10 minutes.
  • Combine yeast mixture, Herman Starter, oil, 2 cups flour, and salt in a large mixing bowl. Mix well. Gradually add remaining flour, 1/2 cup at a time, stirring after each addition. Knead on a lightly floured surface for about 8 minutes until smooth and elastic. Place dough in a lightly oiled bowl, cover with a damp cloth, and let rise in a warm place until doubled in volume, about 1 hour.
  • Grease a 9x5 inch loaf pan. Gently press down the dough and shape it into a loaf on a floured surface. Transfer the loaf to the pan. Cover with a damp cloth and let it rise until doubled, approximately 40 minutes. Preheat the oven to 375°F (190°C).
  • Bake in the oven until the loaf is golden brown on top and sounds hollow when tapped, about 30-35 minutes.
