Indulge in a flavorful Homemade Pepperoni Pizza with a perfect crust, melty cheese, and extra pepperoni hidden under the cheesy topping. Say goodbye to delivery!
Ingredients:
  • 16 ounces pizza dough, store-bought or homemade (I like this no-knead version , though note that this recipe makes enough dough for 2 pizzas)
  • 1/2 cup pizza sauce (see below)
  • 18-20 slices pepperoni
  • 12 ounces mozzarella cheese, grated
  • 1/2 teaspoon ground black pepper
  • 1 teaspoon fresh oregano, optional
  • Flour for rolling and shaping dough
  • For the Quick Pizza Sauce:
  • 1/2 cup tomato sauce (no salt)
  • 1/2 teaspoon kosher salt
  • 1/2 teaspoon granulated garlic
  • 1/2 teaspoon granulated onion
  • 1/4 teaspoon red pepper flakes
  • 1 teaspoon olive oil
  • For the Honey Butter (Dad Add):
  • 1/4 cup softened butter
  • 2 tablespoons honey
Instructions:
  • Preheat the oven to 500°F. If using a pizza stone, place it in the oven to preheat for 20 minutes until hot.
  • Prepare the sauce by combining the ingredients. The recipe yields enough for one large pizza and can be doubled for multiple pizzas.
  • Roll out the dough: On a lightly floured surface, roll the dough into a 14-inch diameter circle. If the dough is tough to roll, allow it to rest for 5 minutes to reach room temperature.
  • Top the pizza: Gently place the dough on a lightly floured pizza peel or large cast-iron skillet. Spread a thin layer of sauce on the dough, ensuring a 1/4-inch border. Chop half of the pepperoni and sprinkle on top of the sauce. Sprinkle grated cheese over the pizza followed by remaining pepperoni. Finish by seasoning with black pepper.
  • For the pizza stone method, carefully slide the pizza into the preheated stone. Cook for 6 minutes, rotate halfway through, and cook for another 6 to 8 minutes until the crust is golden brown with charred spots. For the skillet method, press the dough into a cast iron skillet, add toppings, and preheat on high heat for 2 minutes. Transfer to a 500°F oven and bake for 10 to 12 minutes until the crust is golden brown.
  • Presentation and flavor enhancement: Carefully transfer the pizza onto a cutting board using a pizza peel. Allow the pizza to rest briefly before cutting it into slices. Optionally, sprinkle with fresh oregano for added aroma and taste. Enjoy the warm pizza alongside a side salad.
  • Prepare the honey butter: Combine soft butter and honey, then offer it as a delightful dip for the pizza crust. Refrigerate any remaining pizza for a maximum of three days. Reheat pizza in a tough skillet over medium heat with a bit of oil. Cover with a lid and cook until the cheese is gooey and the crust is crispy.
