Create delicious stewed tomatoes by simmering ripe tomatoes and salt over low heat. Easy and flavorful!
Ingredients:
  • 10 ripe tomatoes
  • 2 teaspoons salt
Instructions:
  • First, bring a generous amount of water to a bubbling boil in a large pot. Then, prepare a bowl filled with refreshing ice water and keep it close by for later use.
  • Score a shallow X on the bottom of each tomato to facilitate peeling. Boil tomatoes until the skin starts to peel back, approximately 30 seconds to 1 minute.
  • Place tomatoes in a bowl of ice water for 5 minutes. Remove from water, peel off skin with your hands, and quarter.
  • Place tomatoes into a large saucepan over low heat, add salt, and simmer for 20 to 30 minutes until slightly thickened, stirring occasionally to prevent burning.
