Sweet butter glazed carrots and pears - a delicious and fragrant holiday side dish.
Ingredients:
  • 3 Anjou pears, peeled and cut into chunks
  • 3 pounds carrots, peeled and sliced
  • 1 cup butter
  • 2 tablespoons brown sugar
  • 2 tablespoons honey
  • 1 teaspoon ground cinnamon
  • 0.5 teaspoon ground nutmeg
  • 1 tablespoon chopped fresh parsley, or as needed
Instructions:
  • 1. Set up a steamer by filling a saucepan with water until it's just below the steamer. Bring the water to a boil. Steam the pears until tender for 5 to 10 minutes. Once done, transfer them to a bowl. 2. Steam the carrots in the same steamer for about 10 minutes until tender. Add the carrots to the bowl with the pears.
  • In a saucepan over medium heat, melt butter then add brown sugar, honey, cinnamon, and nutmeg. Simmer gently, stirring occasionally, until the sugar melts and the glaze slightly thickens, about 5 to 10 minutes.
  • Drizzle glaze over pears and carrots and toss gently to ensure everything is coated. Using a slotted spoon, transfer the pears and carrots to a serving dish and garnish with fresh parsley.
