Serve with black-eyed peas, greens, and warm cornbread.
Ingredients:
  • 1/2 cup red pepper sauce
  • 1/2 teaspoon garlic salt
  • 3- to 3 1/2-pound cut-up broiler-fryer chicken
  • 1 cup Original Bisquick™ mix
  • 1/2 teaspoon onion salt
  • 1 teaspoon pepper
  • 2 cups vegetable oil
Instructions:
  • Combine the pepper sauce and garlic salt until fully mixed, then generously pour the mixture over the chicken in a large bowl. Set the bowl aside for the flavors to meld together.
  • Combine Bisquick mix, onion salt, and pepper in a medium bowl. Remove chicken from sauce, drain, and coat chicken with Bisquick mixture. Discard any excess Bisquick mixture.
  • Heat oil in a 12-inch skillet over medium-high heat until hot. Reduce heat to medium, then cook chicken uncovered for about 15 minutes. Flip the chicken and continue cooking for another 15 minutes until golden brown on all sides and the juices run clear when the thickest pieces are cut near the bone (165°F).
