Create fluffy brown rice with ease using simple hacks for extra flavor.
Ingredients:
  • 1 cup long-grain brown rice
  • 1 3/4 cups water
  • 1/4 teaspoon salt, optional
Instructions:
  • Place the rice in a sieve or strainer and rinse under cold water for 10 seconds, gently swishing to remove excess water.
  • In a 2-quart saucepan, mix together the rice, water, and optional salt.
  • Bring the rice to a boil: Cover the pot and bring to a boil over medium-high heat. Watch for steam or listen for jiggling sounds to prevent spills.
  • Once the rice comes to a boil, lower the heat to a gentle simmer. Set a timer for 35 minutes. Occasionally check on the rice by lifting the lid slightly to see progress, but do so sparingly.
  • Once the timer rings, uncover the pot and inspect the rice. Look for steam holes on the surface and confirm no excess liquid at the bottom. If the rice is slightly firm when tasted, it's ready. If it's still too crunchy, put it back on medium-low heat for 5-minute intervals.
  • Turn off the heat and let the rice steam with the lid on for 10 minutes to finish cooking.
  • Fluff the rice using a fork or spoon before serving.
  • To freeze leftovers, place the cooled rice in a zip-top freezer bag, remove excess air, seal, and freeze for up to 6 months. To defrost, thaw in the refrigerator overnight or submerge the bag in warm water and gently massage every few minutes. Don't forget to rate and review the recipe!
