Tender beef stew with paprika, brown sugar, and onions, a delicious Hungarian classic.
Ingredients:
  • cooking spray
  • 1 pound beef stew meat, cut into cubes
  • 1 small yellow onion, chopped
  • 1.5 cups water
  • 0.5 cup ketchup
  • 3 tablespoons Worcestershire sauce
  • 0.75 teaspoon distilled white vinegar
  • 2 tablespoons brown sugar
  • 1.5 teaspoons paprika
  • 0.5 teaspoon dry mustard
  • 1 (16 ounce) package egg noodles
Instructions:
  • Heat a large pot sprayed with cooking spray over medium heat. Brown the beef stew meat on all sides, 5 to 7 minutes. Add onions and cook until slightly softened, about 5 minutes. Mix in water, ketchup, Worcestershire sauce, vinegar, brown sugar, paprika, salt, and mustard. Cover, reduce heat to low, and simmer until beef is tender, about 2 1/2 hours.
  • Bring a large pot of salted water to a vigorous boil. Cook the egg noodles until al dente, around 5 minutes; then, drain. Finally, serve the goulash on top of the noodles.
