Tender beef chuck stewed with onions, garlic, tomato paste, and sweet paprika for a flavorful Hungarian comfort classic.
Ingredients:
  • 0.33333334326744 cup vegetable oil
  • 3 onions, sliced
  • 2 tablespoons Hungarian sweet paprika
  • 3 teaspoons salt, divided
  • 0.5 teaspoon ground black pepper
  • 3 pounds beef stew meat, cut into 1 1/2 inch cubes
  • 1.5 cups water
  • 1 (6 ounce) can tomato paste
  • 1 clove garlic, minced
Instructions:
  • In a large pot or Dutch oven, heat oil over medium heat. Sauté onions until soft, for about 2 to 4 minutes. Set aside.
  • In a medium bowl, mix paprika, 2 teaspoons of salt, and pepper. Coat beef cubes in the spice mixture, then brown them on all sides in the onion pot.
  • Add the onions back to the pot along with the beef, and then pour in the water, tomato paste, garlic, and the remaining teaspoon of salt. Allow the mixture to come to a boil, then lower the heat to simmer. Cover and cook gently, stirring from time to time, until the meat is tender, for about 1 1/2 to 2 hours.
