Make flavorful split pea and ham soup in less than 2 hours using an Instant Pot®, no constant stirring needed.
Ingredients:
  • 2 tablespoons butter
  • 2 cups chopped yellow onions
  • 1/4 teaspoon salt
  • 1/4 teaspoon pepper
  • 3 cups diced ham (from 16-oz bone-in ham steak)
  • 1 1/2 cups chopped carrots
  • 1/2 cup chopped celery
  • 4 cloves garlic, finely chopped
  • 1 carton (32 oz) Progresso™ reduced sodium chicken broth
  • 2 cups water
  • 2 1/4 cups dried split peas (1 lb), sorted, rinsed
Instructions:
  • Using the 6-quart Instant Pot®, choose the SAUTE function and set it to normal. Melt butter in the pot, then add onions, salt, and pepper. Cook for 6 to 8 minutes, stirring often, until the onions are softened. Press CANCEL to stop the cooking process.
  • Combine the ham, carrots, celery, and garlic in the pot. Add the broth and water, then gently fold in the peas.
  • Secure the lid and set the pressure valve to SEALING. Cook on high pressure for 15 minutes using the MANUAL setting. Once done, select CANCEL and allow pressure to release naturally by keeping the valve in the SEALING position. Stir the contents and let stand for 10 minutes before serving.
