Irresistible Irish soda bread with whole wheat, oats, and tangy buttermilk; yields 4 delicious loaves, ideal for freezing or sharing at gatherings.
Ingredients:
  • 4 cups whole wheat flour
  • 1 cup bread flour
  • 0.33333334326744 cup rolled oats
  • 1 teaspoon baking soda
  • 1 teaspoon salt
  • 2.5 cups buttermilk
Instructions:
  • Preheat the oven to a toasty 425 degrees F (220 degrees C) and give the baking sheets a light greasing.
  • Combine whole wheat flour, bread flour, rolled oats, baking soda, and salt in a large bowl. Gradually add buttermilk until a soft dough forms; lightly knead. Separate dough into 4 pieces and shape into round loaves. Score each loaf with an "X" and place on baking sheets.
  • Bake in the preheated oven for 30 to 45 minutes until the loaves are golden brown and sound hollow when tapped on the bottom.
