Grandma's favorite Italian cookies with lemon and anise extracts, sweet glaze, and sprinkles.
Ingredients:
  • 1 cup unsalted butter, softened
  • 1 cup white sugar
  • 1 teaspoon anise extract
  • 1 teaspoon lemon extract
  • 3 large eggs
  • 3 cups all-purpose flour
  • 3 teaspoons baking powder
  • 0.25 teaspoon salt
  • 1 cup powdered sugar
  • 2 tablespoons milk
  • 2 tablespoons multicolored candy sprinkles, or to taste
Instructions:
  • Preheat the oven to 350°F (175°C) for the perfect cooking temperature.
  • Cream together the butter and sugar until creamy. Mix in the anise extract and lemon extract. Add the eggs. In a separate bowl, combine the flour, baking powder, and salt. Gradually incorporate the dry ingredients into the wet mixture until the dough is slightly crumbly but holds together when shaped by hand.
  • Roll dough into 1-inch balls and space them 2 inches apart on ungreased cookie sheets.
  • Bake in the preheated oven until edges are golden and set, approximately 15 minutes. Remove from the oven and let cool briefly on the baking sheet before transferring to a wire rack to cool completely, around 15 minutes.
  • Mix powdered sugar and milk in a bowl. Drizzle the glaze over cooled cookies and finish with a sprinkle topping.
