Chef John's Italian party bread: Pesto, provolone, and peppers on pizza dough - perfect for any party!
Ingredients:
  • 1 (16 ounce) package pizza dough
  • 1 tablespoon all-purpose flour, or as needed for dusting
  • 0.33333334326744 cup prepared pesto sauce
  • 6 thin slices provolone cheese
  • 2 ounces sliced prosciutto, torn into ribbons
  • 0.33333334326744 cup diced banana peppers
Instructions:
  • Preheat the oven to a toasty 450 degrees F (230 degrees C) and prepare a baking sheet by lining it with parchment paper or a silicone mat.
  • Start by laying the pizza dough on a floured surface and gently roll it out into a rectangular shape, aiming for a thickness between 1/8-inch to 1/4-inch, allowing the dough to rest when needed. Next, generously spread pesto over the dough, making sure to leave a small 1-inch border untouched. Finally, evenly distribute layers of provolone cheese, prosciutto, and peppers on top of the pesto-covered dough.
  • Roll the dough tightly to maximize length with the seam facing downward. Gently flatten the roll and sprinkle the top with flour. Slice the dough lengthwise into 3 even strips using a pizza wheel.
  • Lay strips side by side, middle strip cut-side up and others with cut-sides facing in. Braid and shape into a round wreath, tucking loose ends under. Place on baking sheet.
  • Bake in the preheated oven for about 30 minutes until beautifully golden. Allow to cool slightly before serving warm or at room temperature.
