Flaky pastry filled with curry-spiced beef, baked golden brown.
Ingredients:
  • 2 cups all-purpose flour
  • 1.5 teaspoons curry powder
  • 1 pinch salt
  • 0.25 cup margarine
  • 0.25 cup shortening
  • 0.33333334326744 cup water
  • 2 tablespoons margarine
  • 1 small onion, finely diced
  • 1 pound ground beef
  • 1 teaspoon curry powder
  • 1 teaspoon dried thyme
  • 1 teaspoon salt
  • 1 teaspoon pepper
  • 0.5 cup beef broth
  • 0.5 cup dry bread crumbs
  • 1 egg, beaten
Instructions:
  • Heat the oven to 400°F (200°C).
  • To make the pastry, mix flour, curry powder, and salt in a bowl. Add margarine and shortening, cutting them in until the mixture looks like coarse crumbs. Mix in water until a ball forms. Shape the dough into a log, divide it into 10 pieces, and roll each into a 6-inch circle (around 1/8-inch thick) on a floured surface. Set aside.
  • Create the filling by melting margarine in a skillet over medium heat. Cook onion until soft and translucent for 2 to 3 minutes. Add ground beef and season with curry powder, thyme, salt, and pepper. Stir constantly until beef is evenly browned for 8 to 10 minutes. Mix in beef broth and bread crumbs and let simmer until liquid is absorbed. Remove from heat.
  • Evenly distribute the filling onto each pastry circle. Fold over to create a half-circle shape and firmly press the edges together. Seal the edges using the back of a fork, then brush the tops with beaten egg. Arrange the pastries on a baking sheet.
  • Bake until beautifully golden brown in the preheated oven for approximately 30 minutes.
