Yakitori is grilled chicken skewers, known for their tender, salty, and sweet flavors. Our version, negima yakitori, features chicken and green onion skewers with a savory soy glaze. No marinating needed – just simmer the soy mixture until thick for an authentic look. Perfect for barbecues or weeknight meals, this recipe will surely impress! Ingredients:
  • 131.25 gm reduced-salt soy sauce
  • 63.75 gm chicken style liquid stock
  • 62.50 ml mirin
  • 53.75 gm caster sugar
  • 1kg chicken thigh fillets, trimmed, cut into 3cm pieces
  • 8 green onions, trimmed, cut into 4cm lengths
  • steamed white rice, to serve
Instructions:
  • Submerge skewers in cool water for 15 minutes, then remove excess water.
  • In a small saucepan over medium-high heat, merge soy sauce, stock, mirin, and sugar. Bring to a boil, then reduce heat to medium. Let it simmer for 5 minutes until the sauce thickens slightly. Cool completely before using.
  • Skewer chicken and onions, place on plate, and brush with sauce.
  • 1. Preheat the grill until it's nice and hot on medium-high heat. Grill the skewers, brushing them with sauce, for 6 to 8 minutes, or until they are fully cooked. Enjoy with a side of rice.
