Delicious meatless meatballs made with burger-style crumbles, onion, and milk, baked in a creamy gravy. Perfect with no-yolk noodles and veggies.
Ingredients:
  • 3 slices bread, crumbled
  • 2 tablespoons chopped onion
  • 0.25 teaspoon ground black pepper
  • 0.25 teaspoon ground nutmeg
  • 0.75 cup skim milk
  • 2 (12 ounce) packages frozen burger-style crumbles
  • 4 tablespoons butter
  • 1 cup vegetable broth
  • 1 cup half-and-half cream
Instructions:
  • Preheat your oven to 325°F (165°C).
  • Mix together bread crumbs, onion, pepper, nutmeg, and milk in a large bowl. Add burger-style crumbles and mix until fully incorporated. Shape mixture into 1 1/2-inch balls.
  • Brown the 'meat' balls in butter over medium heat in a large skillet, then transfer them to a 2-quart casserole dish using a slotted spoon.
  • Whisk flour into skillet drippings and cook until bubbly, stirring constantly. Add broth and cream, stirring until sauce thickens and boils, about 1 minute. Pour over meatballs.
  • Place in a hot oven and bake for 30 minutes.
