Whip up a delicious homemade Kahlúa with coffee, brown sugar, vanilla, and grain alcohol for a festive cocktail.
Ingredients:
  • 4 cups water
  • 1 cup instant coffee crystals (such as Folgers® Classic Roast)
  • 2 cups light brown sugar
  • 2 cups lightly packed dark brown sugar
  • 1 (750 milliliter) bottle 190 proof grain alcohol (such as Everclear®)
  • 2 teaspoons vanilla extract
  • 1 vanilla bean, split lengthwise and halved
Instructions:
  • Prepare all ingredients.
  • In a medium pot, blend water and instant coffee and bring to a boil.
  • Stir the two types of brown sugar into the coffee and lower the heat. Let it simmer, stirring every 15 minutes, for 3 hours. Take it off the heat and allow it to cool completely.
  • Transfer the coffee mixture into a spacious, spotless glass jar. Mix in the grain alcohol, vanilla extract, and vanilla bean. Seal the jar tightly with the lid.
  • Allow the mixture to mature in a cool, dark place for 4 weeks, giving it a gentle shake now and then. Afterwards, transfer the mixture into bottles, ensuring each one contains a piece of vanilla bean.
