Indulgent cheesy garlic grits elevate any brunch or meal.
Ingredients:
  • 0.75 cup milk
  • 1 egg
  • 1 tablespoon garlic powder
  • 1 dash hot pepper sauce
  • 4 cups water
  • 1 cup quick-cooking grits
  • 0.25 cup butter
  • 12 ounces shredded sharp Cheddar cheese, divided
Instructions:
  • Preheat your oven to a toasty 350 degrees F (175 degrees C) and generously grease a 2-quart baking dish.
  • In a bowl, whisk together milk, egg, garlic powder, and hot pepper sauce until smooth.
  • In a saucepan, bring water and salt to a boil. Cook and stir grits until thickened, for about 3 to 5 minutes. Remove from heat and stir in butter and half of the Cheddar cheese. Mix in the egg mixture and transfer the grits to a baking dish. Sprinkle the rest of the Cheddar cheese on top.
  • Bake in the preheated oven for 1 hour until the cheese is melted and grits are set. Let the grits cool for 20 to 30 minutes before serving, aiming for a cornbread-like texture.
