Grilled lime and beer-marinated Cuban-style rib eye steaks, perfect for a backyard Cuban fiesta with mojitos. Get thinly cut rib eye steaks from Mexican or Cuban grocery stores or ask your butcher.
Ingredients:
  • 1 tablespoon garlic powder
  • 1 tablespoon onion powder
  • 1 tablespoon meat tenderizer
  • 1 tablespoon seasoning salt
  • 2 pounds rib-eye steak, 1/4 inch thick
  • 1 onion, sliced
  • 1 (12 ounce) bottle beer
  • 1.25 cups fresh lime juice
Instructions:
  • Combine the garlic powder, onion powder, meat tenderizer, and seasoning salt in a small bowl, then massage the seasoning mix onto both sides of the steaks.
  • Layer 1/4 of the sliced onions in a 9x13 inch pan, place steaks over the onions, add more onions on top, drizzle with 1/4 cup lime juice and 1/4 of the beer bottle. Continue layering until steaks are used up and pour remaining lime juice and beer over. Refrigerate covered for 30 to 40 minutes, making sure not to marinate longer than an hour to avoid overcooking due to the acidity of the lime juice.
  • Heat up your outdoor grill to medium-high heat and brush the grate lightly with oil. Grill the steaks and dispose of any leftover marinade.
  • Grill the steaks until cooked to your liking, approximately 2 minutes per side for well done. Let them rest for 5 minutes, then slice and serve with warm tortillas.
