Spicy shrimp Creole simmered in tomato, bell pepper sauce with a kick of chili and hot sauce.
Ingredients:
  • 3 tablespoons butter
  • 0.5 cup finely diced onion
  • 0.5 cup chopped green bell pepper
  • 0.5 cup chopped celery
  • 2 cloves garlic, minced
  • 2 tablespoons cornstarch
  • 1 (14.5 ounce) can stewed tomatoes
  • 1 (8 ounce) can tomato sauce
  • 1 cup water
  • 1 tablespoon Worcestershire sauce
  • 2 teaspoons Cajun seasoning
  • 1 teaspoon chili powder
  • 1 dash hot pepper sauce
  • 1 pound medium shrimp - peeled and deveined
  • 1 tablespoon lemon juice
  • 2 teaspoons chopped fresh thyme
Instructions:
  • Prepare all your fresh and flavorful ingredients.
  • In a 2-quart saucepan over medium heat, melt butter and sauté onion, green pepper, celery, and garlic until onion is soft and pepper is tender, about 5 to 7 minutes.
  • Thicken with cornstarch before adding stewed tomatoes, tomato sauce, water, Worcestershire sauce, chili powder, Cajun seasoning, and hot pepper sauce. Simmer and stir until boiling.
  • Add shrimp, freshly squeezed lemon juice, and fragrant fresh thyme to the pan, cooking until the shrimp are vibrant pink on the outside and their meat is opaque, approximately 5 minutes.
