Indulgent Marsala-poached pears, perfect for any occasion. Serve warm with ice cream or whipped cream for a simple and elegant dessert.
Ingredients:
  • 4 Bartlett pears, about 8 oz. each
  • 0.5 cup Holland House® Marsala Cooking Wine
  • 2 tablespoons packed brown sugar
  • 0.25 teaspoon cinnamon
  • 0.125 teaspoon nutmeg
  • 2 tablespoons butter
  • Vanilla ice cream
  • 0.25 teaspoon Toasted pecans
Instructions:
  • Halve the pears lengthwise and scoop out the cores. In a small mixing bowl, combine Marsala cooking wine, brown sugar, vanilla, cinnamon, and nutmeg. Stir until the sugar is dissolved.
  • In a large 12-inch skillet, melt butter and stir in Marsala mixture until bubbly over medium heat. Add pears cut side down, cover, and cook over medium-low heat for 20 minutes. Remove from heat and let cool for 30-45 minutes before serving.
  • Place each pear half in an individual serving bowl. Stir the sauce in the pan, then drizzle each pear half with 1-2 teaspoons of warm sauce. Add a dollop of ice cream on top, and sprinkle with toasted pecans, if desired. Serve right away.
