Delicious matzo kugel made with matzo farfel, onions, and celery - the ideal side dish for your holiday roast.
Ingredients:
  • 6 tablespoons shortening
  • 1 cup chopped onions
  • 1 cup diced celery
  • 3.5 cups matzo farfel
  • 1.25 cups water
  • 10 ounces chicken broth
  • 2 tablespoons ground paprika
  • 1 teaspoon salt
  • 0.25 teaspoon ground black pepper
Instructions:
  • Preheat the oven to 375 degrees F (190 degrees C) and generously grease a 9-inch square baking pan.
  • In a skillet over medium heat, melt the shortening until sizzling. Toss in onions and celery; cook until tender, approximately 5 minutes. Stir in matzo farfel and toast until golden, around 2 minutes.
  • In a bowl, gently combine water, chicken broth, eggs, paprika, salt, and pepper using a whisk. Fold this mixture into the matzo blend until fully incorporated. Then, pour it into the prepared pan.
  • Bake in the oven preheated to perfection until beautifully browned and firm, for 35 to 45 minutes.
