Savory Lebanese meat pie: Ground beef and lamb in puff pastry for crispy, bite-sized appetizers.
Ingredients:
  • 1 pound ground beef
  • 0.5 pound ground lamb
  • 1 white onion, finely chopped
  • 0.75 cup pine nuts
  • 0.125 teaspoon ground cinnamon
  • salt and ground black pepper to taste
  • 0.33333334326744 cup lemon juice
  • 2 (17.3 ounce) packages frozen puff pastry, thawed
Instructions:
  • Preheat a large skillet over medium-high heat. Combine ground beef, ground lamb, onion, pine nuts, cinnamon, salt, and black pepper in the skillet. Sauté until the meat is crumbly, evenly browned, and no longer pink. Remove and discard any excess grease.
  • Mix in the freshly squeezed lemon juice, taste for flavor and add seasonings as needed. Allow the savory meat mixture to cool.
  • Preheat the oven to 350°F (175°C) and prepare a baking sheet by greasing it lightly or lining it with parchment paper.
  • Roll out the thawed pastry sheets to 1/8 inch thickness. Cut out 9 rounds per sheet using a sharp 3-inch round cookie cutter. Lightly brush the inside edges with water. Place 2 teaspoons of filling in the center of each round. Fold the pastry in half to cover the filling and seal the edges tightly. Transfer to the baking sheet and repeat with the remaining dough circles.
  • Brush each pie with a flavorful egg wash, then bake in the preheated oven until beautifully golden brown, about 15 to 20 minutes.
