Savory mini crab cake bites with a flavorful curry tartar sauce.
Ingredients:
  • 0.25 cup mayonnaise
  • 2 teaspoons relish
  • 1 teaspoon spicy mustard
  • 0.5 teaspoon hot sauce
  • 1 teaspoon garam masala
  • 1 teaspoon minced cilantro
  • 2 tablespoons salted butter
  • 2 stalks celery, finely chopped
  • 0.5 medium onion
  • 0.5 small red bell pepper, chopped
  • 0.5 small green bell pepper, chopped
  • 2 cups fresh bread crumbs
  • 1.5 cups crabmeat
  • 2 large eggs
  • 1 teaspoon seafood seasoning (such as Old Bay®)
  • 0.5 teaspoon ground black pepper
  • 0.25 teaspoon cayenne pepper
  • 0.5 cup vegetable oil for frying, or as needed
Instructions:
  • Combine mayonnaise, relish, mustard, hot sauce, garam masala, and cilantro in a bowl and mix until well blended. Chill in the refrigerator for about 1 hour to let the flavors meld.
  • In a skillet, gently melt the butter until sizzling. Toss in the celery, onion, and bell peppers, then stir until tender, approximately 5 minutes. Remove from heat and transfer to a bowl to cool.
  • Combine the bread crumbs and crabmeat in a large bowl. Mix in the cooled vegetables, eggs, seafood seasoning, pepper, and cayenne until fully blended and moist. Shape the crab mixture into 1 1/2- to 2-inch balls.
  • In a frying pan over medium or medium-low heat, heat oil. Add crab balls and gently flatten them with a spatula. Fry until golden brown, approximately 5 minutes. Flip carefully and brown the other side. Drain on a wire rack.
  • Drizzle with homemade curried tartar sauce before serving.
