Craft the iconic cocktail from Fitzgerald's novel.
Ingredients:
  • 125ml (1/2 cup) water
  • 2 sprigs fresh mint
  • Crushed ice, to serve
  • 240ml bourbon whiskey
  • Soda water (optional), to serve
  • Fresh mint leaves, extra, to decorate
Instructions:
  • In a small saucepan over medium heat, combine the sugar and water until the sugar dissolves, continuously stirring. Add the mint and simmer without stirring for 5 minutes until the mixture thickens. Allow it to cool, then transfer to a jug and chill in the fridge.
  • Strain out and discard the mint from the syrup. Divide crushed ice among glasses. Pour over the bourbon and sugar syrup. Optionally add soda water and garnish with extra mint leaves.
