Mother's Pecan Squares

Pecan pie bars: a slice of heaven in every bite.
Ingredients:
  • 1 cup butter, softened
  • 2 cups dark brown sugar
  • 1 pinch salt
  • 2 cups sifted cake flour
  • 1 cup chopped pecans
Instructions:
  • Preheat the oven to 350 degrees F (175 degrees C) and generously grease a 9x13 inch baking pan.
  • In a bowl, beat together the butter and 1 cup of dark brown sugar until light and fluffy. Add 1 beaten egg, then mix in the flour until well combined. Transfer the batter to the prepared pan and spread it evenly.
  • Spread the remaining well-beaten egg over the batter, then generously sprinkle with dark brown sugar, chopped pecans, and more dark brown sugar for added sweetness and crunch.
  • Bake at 350°F (175°C) for 35 minutes, then cool for 30 minutes before slicing into squares.
