Elevate mac and cheese with zesty mustard and pepper in a creamy sauce, topped with golden bread crumbs and baked to perfection.
Ingredients:
  • 1.5 cups uncooked elbow macaroni
  • 2 tablespoons all-purpose flour
  • 1 teaspoon mustard powder
  • 1 teaspoon ground black pepper
  • 2 cups milk
  • 8 ounces American cheese, cubed
  • 8 ounces processed cheese food (eg. Velveeta), cubed
  • 0.25 cup seasoned dry bread crumbs
Instructions:
  • Preheat the oven to a cozy 400 degrees F (205 degrees C) while you generously butter a 1 1/2 quart casserole dish. In a saucepan, bring some lightly salted water to a boil. Add the macaroni and cook just until it's nearly done, which should take about 6 minutes. Drain the macaroni when ready.
  • In a saucepan, melt butter over medium heat. Whisk in flour, mustard powder, and pepper until smooth. Gradually pour in the milk, whisking to remove any lumps. Stir in American and processed cheeses, and cook, stirring constantly, until the sauce is thick and smooth.
  • After draining the noodles, gently fold them into the velvety cheese sauce. Transfer the luscious mixture to the casserole dish and generously sprinkle breadcrumbs on top.
  • Cover the dish and bake until the sauce is thick and bubbly, about 20 to 25 minutes.
