Savory mincemeat pie filling made with ground beef, apples, dried fruit, spices, brown sugar, and brandy. Perfect for pairing with your favorite pie crust.
Ingredients:
  • 0.5 cup ground suet (white beef fat)
  • 4 apples - peeled, cored and chopped
  • 1 cup brown sugar
  • 1 cup brandy
  • 0.75 cup raisins, chopped
  • 0.5 cup walnuts, chopped
  • 0.5 cup chopped dried mixed fruit
  • 0.5 cup candied mixed fruit peel, chopped
  • 1 lemon, juiced
  • 1 teaspoon ground nutmeg
  • 0.5 teaspoon ground cinnamon
  • 0.5 teaspoon ground allspice
  • 0.5 teaspoon ground cloves
Instructions:
  • In a skillet over medium heat, cook the ground beef until nicely browned for about 10 minutes, continuously breaking it into small pieces. Remember to drain any excess fat before proceeding.
  • Heat a large cast-iron or heavy skillet over medium heat. Combine cooked beef, suet, apples, brown sugar, brandy, raisins, walnuts, dried mixed fruit, mixed fruit peel, lemon juice, salt, nutmeg, cinnamon, allspice, and cloves in the skillet. Stir until well mixed and sugar has dissolved. Bring to a boil, then reduce heat to a simmer. Cook for about 1 hour until flavors blend and filling thickens, stirring occasionally.
  • Prepare the mincemeat pie filling.
