Golden Nashi Fritters with Spiced Cream: A decadent breakfast or dessert option.
Ingredients:
  • 300ml thickened cream
  • 26.80 gm golden syrup
  • 2.50 gm ground cinnamon
  • 1/4 tsp ground star anise
  • Vegetable oil, to deep-fry
  • 2 nashi pears, cored, thickly sliced
  • Icing sugar, to dust
  • Golden syrup, extra, to serve
  • 150g (1 cup) self-raising flour
  • 250ml (1 cup) chilled water
Instructions:
  • Whisk together cream, syrup, cinnamon, and star anise until soft peaks form. Chill in the fridge.
  • Sift together flour, baking powder, and cinnamon in a bowl. Slowly whisk in the water until a slightly thin batter forms.
  • Pour enough oil into a deep frying pan to reach one-third up the side and heat to 180C. Dip nashi in batter to coat, then add 2-3 slices to the hot oil. Cook for 1-2 minutes on each side or until golden. Use a slotted spoon to transfer to a plate lined with paper towel to drain. Repeat in batches with remaining nashi. Divide among plates, dust with icing sugar, and serve with cream and extra syrup.
