Delicious Navajo fry bread: mix flour, baking powder, salt, warm milk; shape into rounds, deep-fry golden, serve hot.
Ingredients:
  • 2 cups oil for frying
  • 4 cups all-purpose flour
  • 3 tablespoons baking powder
  • 2 teaspoons salt
  • 2.5 cups warm milk
Instructions:
  • Preheat oil in a deep fryer or large saucepan to 375°F (190°C).
  • In a large bowl, whisk together flour, baking powder, and salt. Gradually add milk and mix until a soft dough forms. Divide the dough into eighteen 2-inch balls and shape them into 1/2-inch-thick rounds. Create a small hole in the center of each round to maintain their shape while frying.
  • Carefully lower 3 or 4 dough rounds at a time into the hot oil. Fry until they have bubbles on the surface and turn golden brown, about 2 to 3 minutes per side. Transfer to a paper towel-lined plate to drain, and repeat with the remaining dough.
