Savory sausage gravy with bacon-infused roux for a classic and irresistible dish.
Ingredients:
  • 1 pound ground pork sausage
  • 3 tablespoons bacon grease
  • 0.25 cup all-purpose flour
  • 3 cups milk
  • 0.25 teaspoon ground black pepper
Instructions:
  • Brown and crumble sausage in a large skillet over medium-high heat for 5 to 7 minutes. Transfer cooked sausage to a plate, keeping the flavorful drippings in the skillet.
  • Combine the bacon grease with the sausage drippings over medium heat. Gradually whisk in flour, stirring continuously until the mixture thickens and darkens in color, which should take around 5 minutes.
  • Whisk in milk until creamy. Simmer, add sausage back, and season with salt and pepper. Cook until thickened and smooth, stirring occasionally, for 10 to 15 minutes.
