Savory beef tomato sauce simmers with whole wheat spaghetti for a delicious and quick weeknight meal.
Ingredients:
  • 1 pound lean ground beef
  • 1 large onion, chopped
  • 1 (14 ounce) can tomato sauce
  • 1 (14 ounce) can petite diced tomatoes
  • 2 cups water
  • 1 tablespoon chili powder
  • 1 teaspoon dried oregano
  • 1 teaspoon ground black pepper
  • 7 ounces whole wheat spaghetti
  • 0.25 cup grated Parmesan cheese, or to taste
Instructions:
  • Preheat a Dutch oven over medium-high heat. Sauté ground beef, onion, and garlic until beef is browned and crumbly and onion is translucent, about 5 to 7 minutes. Remove any excess grease.
  • Combine tomato sauce, diced tomatoes, water, chili powder, oregano, and black pepper in a pot. Bring to a boil, then cover, reduce heat, and simmer for 30 minutes, stirring occasionally.
  • Break spaghetti into thirds and add to the pot, ensuring each strand is fully submerged; simmer covered, stirring occasionally, until pasta is al dente, for about 20 minutes. Serve garnished generously with freshly grated Parmesan cheese.
