Irresistible oven-baked sweet potato fries: Sweet potato wedges coated in oil, spices, and baked to crispy perfection at high heat.
Ingredients:
  • 2 pounds orange fleshed sweet potatoes (yams), about 3 large ones
  • 3 tablespoons extra virgin olive oil
  • 1 1/2 teaspoons kosher salt
  • 1 to 2 tablespoons spice or spice combination of your choice: chipotle powder, smoked paprika, Chinese five-spice, pumpkin pie spice, garam masala, Cajun seasoning, etc.
Instructions:
  • To enhance crispiness, preheat your oven to 500°F and put a roasting pan or heavy-duty baking sheet inside to heat up.
  • Prepare the sweet potatoes: Peel them and remove the ends. Cut each potato in half lengthwise, then halve them crosswise if needed. Slice each piece into 1/4 to 1/2-inch thick wedges. Alternatively, you can slice the peeled sweet potatoes into disks using a mandoline or a sharp knife.
  • Combine sweet potatoes with oil in a bowl, ensuring all pieces are well coated. Sprinkle with salt and your favorite spices, then mix thoroughly using your hands.
  • Transfer sweet potatoes onto hot pan: Carefully arrange sweet potatoes in a single layer on the hot baking sheet as it is removed from the oven. (Caution: Hot surface!)
  • Bake sweet potato wedges at 450°F or 500°F for 15 to 25 minutes, flipping halfway through, until well browned. Watch closely to avoid burning as natural sugars caramelize.
  • Allow the fries to cool for 5 minutes before serving. Enjoyed the recipe? Share your feedback with a rating and review!
