Tender beef and onions mixed with spices, topped with cumin-tomato sauce, and baked for flavorful Pakistani kofta kebabs.
Ingredients:
  • 2 tablespoons vegetable oil, or more as needed
  • 1 large onion, coarsely chopped
  • 1 pound ground beef, or more to taste
  • 1 egg
  • 1 tablespoon plain yogurt, or to taste
  • 1 tablespoon garlic paste
  • 1 tablespoon ginger paste
  • 1 teaspoon ground coriander
  • 1 teaspoon ground red pepper, or more to taste
  • 1.5 teaspoons cumin seeds
  • 1 cup tomato sauce
Instructions:
  • Preheat your oven to a toasty 350 degrees F (175 degrees C).
  • In a large skillet, heat oil over medium-high heat. Saute onion until beautifully golden, approximately 5 minutes. Transfer onion and 1 tablespoon of the flavorful oil to a food processor and blend until silky smooth. Keep the rest of the tasty oil in the skillet for later use.
  • Combine onion puree, beef, egg, yogurt, garlic paste, ginger paste, coriander, salt, and red pepper in a bowl. Mix well by hand. Shape the beef mixture into 4 to 5-inch-long kebabs using oiled hands and place them in a baking pan.
  • - Blacken cumin seeds in reserved oil over medium-high heat for 5 minutes. Add tomato sauce and salt; cook until heated through for an additional 5 minutes. Pour the sauce over the kebabs and cover with aluminum foil.
  • Bake the beef in the preheated oven until no longer pink in the center, approximately 20 minutes. Remove cover and broil until browned, around 5 additional minutes.
