Master the art of stovetop popcorn with our foolproof recipe for perfectly crispy kernels.
Ingredients:
  • 3 tablespoons coconut oil or extra virgin olive oil
  • 1/3 cup of high quality popcorn kernels
  • 1 Tbsp or more (to taste) of butter (optional)
  • Salt to taste
Instructions:
  • Heat the oil in a 3-quart thick-bottomed saucepan over medium-high heat until all solid coconut oil is melted, if using.
  • Drop 3 or 4 popcorn kernels into the sizzling oil and patiently wait for them to burst open.
  • Add the remaining 1/3 cup of popcorn kernels in an even layer once the kernels start popping.
  • Cover the pot and let it sit off the heat for 30 seconds. Enjoy counting out loud, especially with kids. This technique ensures the oil reaches the perfect temperature and allows all kernels to nearly reach popping temperature simultaneously for synchronized popping when reheated.
  • Place the pan back on the heat: The popcorn will start popping in unison shortly. When the popping intensifies, gently shake the pan from side to side over the burner.
  • After the majority of the kernels have finished popping with intervals between pops, take the pan off the heat. Quickly transfer the popcorn into a spacious bowl. This method ensures minimal unpopped kernels and prevents burning.
  • Place butter in the hot pan to melt.
