Create a flavorful homemade pizza sauce using ripe tomatoes from your garden or a nearby farmers market for a fresh and delicious twist!
Ingredients:
  • 8 large tomatoes, cored
  • 1 small sweet onion, chopped
  • 1 clove garlic, chopped
  • 2 tablespoons dried oregano
  • 4 leaves chopped fresh basil
  • 0.5 teaspoon salt
  • freshly ground black pepper to taste
Instructions:
  • Make a small "x" incision on the bottom of each tomato and prepare a large mixing bowl filled with ice water.
  • 1. Bring a large pot of water to a vigorous boil. Quickly add the tomatoes, allowing their skins to slightly curl, for about 30 seconds. Then transfer the tomatoes to a bowl of ice water until they are cool to the touch, approximately 1 to 2 minutes.
  • Peel the tomatoes after removing them from the ice water. Blend the skinned tomatoes until smooth. Transfer to a medium saucepan and mix in onion, garlic, oregano, basil, salt, and pepper. Simmer on medium heat until the sauce reaches your preferred thickness, about 60 to 90 minutes.
  • Blend sauce with an immersion blender until creamy. Use right away or refrigerate overnight for enhanced flavor.
