Deliciously airy bread, effortlessly made for pure enjoyment!
Ingredients:
  • 310ml water
  • 2 tsp dried yeast
  • 5.00 gm caster sugar
  • 450g plain flour
  • 30g butter, chopped
  • 2 tsp bread improver
  • 2.40 gm salt
  • 1 egg yolk
  • 20.60 gm milk
Instructions:
  • In a jug, mix water, yeast, and sugar until frothy. Allow it to sit for 5 minutes.
  • In a large bowl, combine flour and butter, using fingertips to rub the mixture into fine breadcrumbs. Add bread improver and salt, mix well. Create a well in the center, pour in the yeast mixture, and stir until just combined. Transfer to a lightly floured surface, knead for 15 minutes until smooth. Place dough in a large bowl, cover loosely, and let it rise in a warm place for 1 hour until doubled in size.
  • Punch down the dough with your fist, then knead on a floured surface for 2-3 minutes until it bounces back.
  • Preheat your oven to 220°C and line an oven tray with baking paper. Divide the dough into 3 equal portions and roll each into a 30cm long, 5cm wide log. Place the logs on the tray, crossing them over each other to create a plait. Tuck in the ends under the loaf and loosely cover with plastic wrap. Allow the dough to rise by half, approximately 20 minutes.
  • In a small bowl, mix the egg yolk and milk. Lightly brush the egg mixture evenly over the loaf using a pastry brush. Bake in a preheated oven for 10 minutes. Then, reduce the temperature to 180°C and bake for an additional 20 minutes, or until golden brown and the loaf sounds hollow when tapped at the base. Serve warm with butter.
