Indulgent Pommes Anna with Yukon gold potatoes, Gruyère cheese, and sauteed onions for a gourmet au gratin dish.
Ingredients:
  • 0.75 teaspoon salt
  • 0.5 teaspoon thyme
  • 2 tablespoons butter, divided
  • 1 thinly sliced sweet onion
  • 1.5 pounds Yukon gold potatoes, peeled and thinly sliced
  • 1 cup shredded Gruyere cheese
Instructions:
  • Mix salt, pepper, and thyme in a bowl.
  • In a 10-inch skillet over medium heat, melt 1 tablespoon of butter. Cook and stir onions until soft and golden brown, about 8 minutes. Transfer to a bowl.
  • Melt the remaining butter in the skillet and set aside.
  • Layer 1/3 of the potato slices in the skillet, overlapping slightly. Sprinkle with half of the salt mixture, then add half of the onions and Gruyere cheese. Repeat the layers, finishing with the remaining potatoes, and sprinkle with the remaining salt mixture.
  • Cook covered over medium-low heat until potatoes are tender, about 30 minutes. Uncover and cook for an additional 5 minutes. Run a spatula around edges to loosen, then allow to cool for 5 to 10 minutes.
  • Carefully flip the potatoes onto a serving dish.
