Involve kids in making delicious veggie-loaded sausage rolls.
Ingredients:
  • 200g zucchini
  • 1 small brown onion, peeled
  • 250g veal mince
  • 250g pork mince
  • 100g green beans, topped, thinly sliced
  • 60g (1 cup) fresh breadcrumbs
  • 1 egg, lightly beaten
  • 3 sheets (25 x 25cm) frozen puff pastry, thawed
  • 41.20 gm milk
  • 12.00 gm sesame seeds
  • Tomato sauce, to serve
Instructions:
  • Preheat your oven to 220°C and line 2 baking trays with non-stick baking paper.
  • Grate zucchini and onion using the coarse side of the grater, then firmly squeeze out excess liquid. Place them in a large bowl with veal mince, pork mince, beans, breadcrumbs, and egg. Mix everything together using your hands until well combined.
  • With adult supervision, halve the pastry sheet to create two rectangles. Divide the mince mixture into 6 portions. Shape each portion into a long sausage and place one along the center of each pastry rectangle.
  • With adult help, brush one side of the pastry with a little milk. Roll the pastry lengthwise, starting with the side you didn't brush, to seal the mince filling inside. Cut the roll in two to create 2 rolls. Put them seam-side down on a baking sheet lined with parchment paper. Use a small butter knife to make 3 diagonal cuts on the pastry's top. Sprinkle sesame seeds on top. Repeat the process with the rest of the pastry, mince mix, milk, and sesame seeds.
  • Bake in a preheated oven for 30-35 minutes, switching trays halfway through, until golden and fully cooked. Let it cool on a wire rack before serving with tomato sauce.
