Easy homemade Japanese classic - fresh, flavorful, and healthy.
Ingredients:
  • 1 (about 300g) pork scotch fillet
  • 1 bunch asparagus, trimmed
  • 4 green onions, trimmed
  • 42.00 gm Japanese soy sauce
  • 40.00 ml sake
  • 40.00 ml mirin
  • 18.40 gm vegetable oil
Instructions:
  • Wrap the pork fillet tightly in plastic wrap and chill in the freezer for 2-3 hours until slightly frozen. Slice the pork thinly using a sharp knife (refer to note).
  • Lay out a rectangle of 4-5 pork slices slightly overlapping on a piece of plastic wrap. Season with salt. Add an asparagus spear and a green onion. Roll the pork over the asparagus filling using the plastic wrap to help. Repeat with the remaining pork, asparagus, and green onions. Wrap in plastic wrap and refrigerate on a plate for 1 hour to chill.
  • In a small saucepan over medium heat, mix together soy sauce, sake, mirin, and sugar. Stir and cook for 2 minutes until sugar dissolves. Increase heat to high and simmer for 3-4 minutes until the sauce thickens into a syrup. Remove from heat and cover with foil to keep warm.
  • Heat oil in a large frying pan over medium-high heat. Unwrap pork rolls, add half to the pan, and cook for 3-4 minutes until golden brown and crisp, turning occasionally. Transfer to a plate. Repeat with remaining pork rolls.
  • Cut each roll into 5cm lengths using a sharp knife, then arrange on a platter, drizzle with sauce, and serve promptly.
