Delicious Japanese dumplings filled with savory pork and flavorful seasonings, ideal as a tasty appetizer.
Ingredients:
  • 12 ounces ground pork
  • 0.25 head cabbage, shredded
  • 2 spring onions, sliced
  • 1 tablespoon soy sauce
  • 2 teaspoons sake
  • 2 teaspoons mirin
  • 2 teaspoons minced fresh ginger root
  • 40 gyoza wrappers, or as needed
  • 0.25 cup rice wine vinegar
Instructions:
  • In a large bowl, blend together ground pork, cabbage, egg, spring onions, 1 tablespoon of soy sauce, sake, mirin, and ginger until fully combined.
  • Spoon 1 to 2 teaspoons of the pork mixture onto each gyoza wrapper. Moisten edges with water, fold in half to form a semi-circle, and crimp edges for a decorative pattern. Press edges to seal, removing any excess air. Repeat with remaining pork mixture.
  • In a large skillet over medium-high heat, add vegetable oil. Cook gyoza in a single layer until the bottom is browned, for 3 to 5 minutes. Pour water into the skillet, lower the heat, cover, and steam the gyoza until water evaporates, for about 5 minutes. Repeat with remaining gyoza.
  • Combine the rice vinegar and soy sauce to create a delicious dipping sauce for the gyoza. Serve alongside the dumplings.
