Savory chicken dumplings, filled with Asian spices, crispy fried and steamed to perfection.
Ingredients:
  • 1.5 cups all-purpose flour
  • 3 tablespoons vegetable oil
  • boiling water
  • 4 ounces ground chicken
  • 4 water chestnuts, drained and finely chopped
  • 3 green onions, finely chopped
  • 0.5 teaspoon Chinese five-spice powder
  • 1 tablespoon reduced-sodium soy sauce
  • 1 teaspoon white sugar
  • 0.5 cup oil for frying
Instructions:
  • In a large bowl, sift together the flour and salt. Create a well in the center and pour in vegetable oil and around 4 tablespoons of boiling water. Stir with a wooden spoon until smooth, adding more boiling water if needed. Knead the dough for about 5 minutes until elastic. Cover the dough and let it rest for 30 minutes.
  • Divide the dough into 12 equal pieces and shape each into a 6-inch circle.
  • Brown ground chicken breast in a medium saucepan over medium-high heat.
  • Combine drained chicken with water chestnuts, green onions, Chinese five-spice powder, reduced-sodium soy sauce, white sugar, and sesame oil in a medium bowl, mixing well.
  • - Heat oil in a large skillet until hot. - Spoon approximately 1 tablespoon of chicken mixture into the center of each dough circle. Fold over and press edges to seal. - Cook dumplings in batches until bottoms are golden brown. - Add approximately 1/3 cup water to the pan, cover, and steam for about 5 minutes until dumplings are well steamed. - Serve hot and enjoy!
