Create stunning petal design with ease. Transform your cakes with this simple frosting technique that will elevate your baking game for years to come.
Ingredients:
  • 1 box yellow cake mix with pudding
  • Water, oil and eggs called for on cake mix box
  • 1 1/2 cups butter, softened
  • 5 cups powdered sugar
  • 2 teaspoons vanilla
  • 2 to 4 tablespoons milk
  • Blue, purple, green and orange gel food color
Instructions:
  • Preheat oven to 350°F (325°F for dark or nonstick pans) and lightly grease the bottom of a 13x9-inch pan. Prepare the cake mix according to the package instructions using water, oil, and eggs.
  • Bake for 28-32 minutes until a toothpick inserted in the center comes out clean. Let cool in the pan for 10 minutes, then transfer to a cooling rack. Allow to cool completely, approximately 1 hour.
  • Beat creamy butter with an electric mixer, gradually adding powdered sugar one cup at a time until smooth. Mix in vanilla and milk in 2 tablespoon increments until well combined. If needed, stir in additional milk for desired consistency.
  • Spread a thin layer of 1/2 cup frosting over the entire cake. Divide the remaining frosting equally into four bowls (about 3/4 cup in each bowl). Mix blue, purple, green, and orange food coloring into each bowl until you achieve the desired color.
  • Place each color in its own resealable food-storage plastic bag. Cut a 1/2-inch hole in one corner of each bag. Pipe a dot of blue frosting onto the cake and use the back of a teaspoon to slightly pull the frosting. Repeat with the remaining colors, alternating them as you cover the cake, slightly overlapping the dots of frosting.
