Create a festive centerpiece using Styrofoam and patriotic treats for your Fourth of July party.
Ingredients:
  • 1 box Betty Crocker™ Super Moist™ White Cake Mix (or your favorite flavor)
  • Water, vegetable oil and eggs called for on cake mix box
  • 1 tub (12 oz) Betty Crocker™ Whipped Fluffy White Frosting (or your favorite flavor)
  • 1 bag (14 oz) candy melts (any flavor)
  • 1 teaspoon shortening
  • Craft sticks (flat wooden sticks with round ends)
  • Betty Crocker™ assorted candy sprinkles
  • Block of white plastic foam
Instructions:
  • Prepare multiple cookie sheets by lining them with waxed paper. Follow the instructions on the cake mix box for a 13x9-inch pan, using water, oil, and eggs. Allow the cake to cool completely, approximately 1 hour.
  • Crumble cake into a large bowl using your fingers. Add frosting and mix well with your fingers until dough forms. Shape the mixture into quarter-size balls and place them on cookie sheets. Freeze for about 15 minutes.
  • I love this step because it is so easy to do! Simply place the candy melts in a small microwavable bowl and microwave as directed on the bag. Then stir in the shortening until the mixture is smooth and runs off the spoon effortlessly.
  • Take the cake pop balls out of the freezer. Dip the end of each craft stick into the melted candy, then insert it halfway into a cake ball. Place the cake pop on a cookie sheet lined with waxed paper.
  • Take each cake ball on a stick and swirl it gently in the melted candy, ensuring it is well coated. Let the excess candy drip back into the bowl. Dip the coated ball into candy sprinkles for decoration and then place it in plastic foam to allow the candy to harden. Repeat this process with the rest of the cake balls and melted candy.
