Celebrate the 4th of July with our stunning Red, White and Blue Trifle, featuring colorful layers of cake, creamy filling, and fresh berries for a patriotic treat.
Ingredients:
  • 1 box Betty Crocker™ Super Moist™ White Cake Mix
  • 1 1/4 cups buttermilk
  • 1/3 cup vegetable oil
  • 1 tablespoon unsweetened baking cocoa
  • 1 tablespoon red liquid food color
  • 1 teaspoon blue liquid food color
  • 2 packages (8 oz each) cream cheese, softened
  • 3/4 cup sugar
  • 1 1/2 cups whipping cream
  • 1 cup sliced strawberries
  • 1/4 cup blueberries
Instructions:
  • Preheat oven to 325°F and generously coat two 8-inch square (2-quart) glass baking dishes with cooking spray.
  • In a large bowl, use an electric mixer to blend cake mix, buttermilk, oil, eggs, and cocoa on low speed for 30 seconds, then switch to medium speed for 2 minutes until well combined.
  • Split the batter evenly between two bowls. Stir in red food coloring to one bowl until combined. Pour the mixture into one baking dish. Add blue food coloring to the other bowl and mix thoroughly. Pour this mixture into the other baking dish. Bake for 30 to 35 minutes or until a toothpick inserted in the center comes out clean. Let the cakes cool completely in the baking dishes for about 1 hour.
  • In a large bowl, blend cream cheese, 1/2 cup sugar, and vanilla until smooth. In a separate large bowl, whip cream and remaining 1/4 cup sugar until stiff peaks form. Gently fold 1/2 cup of whipped cream into the cream cheese mixture. Follow by gently folding in 1 1/2 cups of whipped cream. Set the mixture aside.
  • Slice the cakes into bite-sized 1-inch squares.
  • Layer half of the blue cake cubes in the bottom of a trifle bowl. Spread one-third of the cream cheese mixture over the cake cubes. Add half of the red cake cubes, then another one-third of the cream cheese mixture. Top with the rest of the blue cake cubes, followed by the remaining cream cheese mixture. Save the extra red cake for later. Finish by adding the remaining whipped cream on top of the trifle. Decorate with strawberries and blueberries for a colorful touch.
