Indulge in a stunning red velvet heart cake with luscious cream cheese frosting for a romantic touch.
Ingredients:
  • 625.00 ml plain flour
  • 20.00 gm Cocoa Powder
  • 5.00 gm bicarbonate of soda
  • 322.50 gm caster sugar
  • 260.00 gm buttermilk
  • 345.00 gm vegetable oil
  • 2 eggs
  • 20.00 ml red liquid food colouring
  • 8.80 gm vanilla essence
  • 2 tsp white vinegar
  • Heart-shaped sprinkles, to serve
  • 1 1/2 x 250g blocks cream cheese, softened
  • 150g butter, softened
  • 300.00 gm icing sugar mixture
Instructions:
  • Preheat your oven to 180C/160C fan-forced. Grease an 8cm-deep, 21cm x 23.5cm (base) heart-shaped cake pan and line the base and sides with baking paper.
  • In a large bowl, sift together flour, cocoa, and bicarbonate of soda. Stir in sugar and create a well in the center. In a separate bowl, lightly whisk buttermilk, oil, egg, red food coloring, essence, and vinegar together. Pour this mixture into the well and stir until smooth. Transfer the batter into a prepared pan and bake for 1 hour and 10 minutes or until a skewer inserted in the center comes out clean. Let it rest in the pan for 10 minutes before transferring it to a wire rack to cool completely.
  • Prepare Cream cheese frosting: In a bowl, use an electric mixer to whip together cream cheese, butter, and essence until light and fluffy. Slowly incorporate icing sugar until fully mixed. Slice cake horizontally. Lay the bottom half on a plate. Spread 1/3 of the frosting on the bottom half. Place the top half of the cake on top. Frost the top and sides with the remaining frosting. Decorate with heart-shaped sprinkles and serve.
