Impress your love with these elegant red wine poached pears - tender, juicy, and ready in just 20 minutes.
Ingredients:
  • 2 1/2 cups red wine like Cabernet Sauvignon
  • 1/2 cup fresh orange juice
  • 1/2 cup honey
  • 1 orange peel
  • 5 whole cloves
  • 2 cinnamon sticks
  • 5 to 8 whole black peppercorns
  • 4 Bosc pears, peeled and stems left intact
  • Vanilla ice cream ,  whipped cream , or mascarpone cheese, to serve
Instructions:
  • Create the sauce: Combine red wine, orange juice, honey, orange peel, cloves, cinnamon sticks, and peppercorns in a medium saucepan over medium-low heat. Simmer uncovered for 5 minutes until small bubbles appear without reaching a rolling boil.
  • Simmer peeled pears in the sauce for 20-25 minutes, flipping them gently every 5 minutes until soft enough to pierce easily with a knife. If needed, poach an extra 5 minutes until desired tenderness is reached.
  • Scoop the pears out of the sauce into a medium bowl using a slotted spoon. Simmer the sauce uncovered for 10 to 15 minutes until it thickens into a syrupy consistency. Use visual cues to gauge doneness. Strain the sauce through a fine mesh sieve set over the medium bowl to remove spices and orange peel.
  • Presentation: Place the poached pears in individual bowls and generously drizzle with red wine sauce. Enjoy warm or at room temperature alongside a scoop of vanilla ice cream, whipped cream, or mascarpone cheese.
