Classic ground beef casserole topped with golden-brown fresh biscuits.
Ingredients:
  • 1 cooking spray
  • 2 tablespoons canola oil
  • 1 cup chopped carrots
  • 1 cup chopped onions
  • 1 cup chopped celery
  • 1 pound ground beef
  • 4 tablespoons butter
  • 3 tablespoons all-purpose flour
  • 1 cup milk
  • 2 cups beef broth
  • 1.5 teaspoons garlic salt
  • 1 teaspoon onion powder
  • 1 teaspoon garlic powder
  • 0.25 teaspoon ground black pepper
  • 1 cup buttermilk
  • 3 cups baking mix
Instructions:
  • Preheat the oven to 350 degrees F (175 degrees C) and greasy a glass baking dish with cooking spray like Pyrex®.
  • In a pan on medium-high heat, saute carrots, onions, and celery in oil until onions are translucent, about 5 to 7 minutes.
  • Heat a large skillet over medium-high heat. Brown and crumble ground beef in the skillet for 5 to 7 minutes. Discard excess grease after cooking.
  • In the same skillet, slide the beef to the side and let the butter melt over medium heat. Gradually whisk in the flour until well combined. Pour in the milk while whisking constantly to ensure a smooth mixture. Stir in the beef broth, sauteed vegetables, garlic salt, onion powder, garlic powder, and black pepper. Once it boils, cover and remove from heat.
  • Pour the buttermilk into the baking mix and mix until a soft dough forms. Transfer the dough onto waxed paper and roll it out to 1/2-inch thickness. Use a 2 1/2-inch round biscuit cutter coated with baking mix to cut out the biscuits.
  • Transfer the savory beef mixture into the ready baking dish and generously crown it with buttery biscuits.
  • Bake in the oven until biscuits are golden brown, for 24 to 25 minutes.
