Savory cornmeal biscuits with buttermilk, sage, and Cheddar for a divine taste.
Ingredients:
  • 1.5 cups Martha White® All-Purpose Flour
  • 0.5 cup Martha White® Self-Rising Enriched White Corn Meal Mix
  • 2 teaspoons sugar
  • 2 teaspoons minced fresh sage
  • 2 teaspoons baking powder
  • 0.5 teaspoon salt
  • 0.5 cup Crisco® Baking Sticks All-Vegetable Shortening, well chilled
  • 0.75 cup buttermilk
  • 0.5 cup shredded extra sharp white or mild Cheddar cheese
  • 2 tablespoons butter, melted
Instructions:
  • Preheat oven to 425 degrees F. In a large bowl, mix flour, corn meal mix, sugar, sage, baking powder, and salt until combined. Using a pastry blender or fork, cut in shortening until mixture resembles coarse crumbs. Gently fold in buttermilk and cheese until evenly moistened.
  • Transfer the dough onto a lightly floured work surface. Gently knead 5 times to form a smooth dough. Roll out the dough to a thickness of 3/4 inch. Use a floured 2-inch biscuit cutter to cut out the shapes. Arrange them 2 inches apart on a baking sheet.
  • Bake until golden brown, then transfer to a wire rack to cool. Brush with butter and serve warm.
